Utah starting QB Cameron Rising returns vs. Arizona State after missing three games with finger injury

The Utes are 20-4 since 2021 in games that Rising starts and finishes

Utah quarterback Cameron Rising made his first start in more than a month against Arizona State Friday night after missing the Utes' last three games with a laceration on his right (throwing) hand suffered against Baylor on Sept. 7. 

When Rising is in the lineup, Utah has been one of the best teams in the country. The Utes are 20-4 in games that Rising starts with two Pac-12 championships since 2021. They are 12-10 in all other games, including an 8-5 record and an unranked finish during the 2023 season, which Rising missed with an ACL tear. 

Freshman Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of NFL QB Zach Wilson, has made three starts this season in Rising's absence. In two Big 12 games (1-1), Wilson has thrown two touchdowns to four interceptions and failed to complete 60% of his passes in a game. 

Rising suffered the injury at the end of the first half of a 23-12 win over Baylor when he cut his hand on an equipment cart while being forced out of bounds by a Baylor defender. Rising threw two touchdowns in the game, but Utah did not score again against the Bears. 

The senior has completed 64% of his passes for 5,918 yards, 53 touchdowns and 14 touchdowns at Utah. He has also rushed for 999 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
