Monrovia – Lofa County Senator Joseph Jallah has emphasized the need for an increase in the salaries of local government officials, citing the growing challenges they face in carrying out their duties effectively.

Speaking at the opening of the Senate session on Tuesday, Senator Jallah underscored that local officials, including commissioners and paramount chiefs, are struggling under harsh economic conditions. “These officials are enduring immense difficulties in fulfilling their functions. It is crucial that we increase their compensation to enhance their ability to serve the people,” the senator stressed.

In addition to his call for improved wages for local authorities, Senator Jallah also urged educational institutions to reduce graduation fees, highlighting the financial strain on students and parents amid the country’s tough economic conditions.

He expressed particular concern over the recent graduation fees set by the University of Liberia, stating, “The fees imposed by some school authorities are outrageous and must be addressed urgently by the government.”

The senator pledged to remain committed to advocating for solutions that address the concerns of his constituents and the broader population. “I will remain engaged in the Senate to ensure that the voices and concerns of the people of Lofa are heard and prioritized,” Senator Jallah vowed.

His statements reflect growing calls for policy reforms to alleviate the economic pressures on Liberians, particularly in education and governance.
