Chips or pretzels?

Are ketchup chips tastier than pretzels? Is orange juice better than apple juice?

Those were the hot topics debated around the Peachland district council table when students from Peachland Elementary School took part in a youth council meeting on Wednesday.

Deputy Mayor Keith Thom hosted the eight youth council members, who are in grades 3 to 5. He explained how municipal politics works and the students voted on two mock resolutions.

They debated the merits of ketchup chips, pretzels, orange juice and apple juice and then cast their votes. Each student had the opportunity to speak, including 5 alternates.

In the end, chips came out on top 6-to-2 and apple juice trumped its citrus counterpart.

“All in all, it was a great experience,” said Thom.
