Salmon Arm Mounties say a 38-year-old man with active warrants fled from police on foot and in a vehicle before he was finally arrested and charged with three additional crimes.

On Nov. 9, police officers spotted the man, known to have active warrants for his arrest, driving an orange Kia Seltos on Fifth Street SE.

According to RCMP, when officers attempted to arrest the man he fled on foot, and police were unable to track him. Mounties say they spotted him again behind the wheel of the same vehicle soon after, but the Kia fled at a high rate of speed.

“Police attended a nearby residence the man was known to frequent, and located the Kia Seltos parked there,” said Const. Andrew Hodges of the Salmon Arm RCMP.

“A witness confirmed the man had run into the house.”

RCMP spent more than an hour and a half attempting to convince the man to leave the residence before they obtained a warrant permitting them to enter the home and arrest the man.

“The man was located inside and arrested for the outstanding warrants and three new charges,” Hodges said.

Mounties received charge approval against William Travis Young for flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstruction.
