Police arrested a man Tuesday after receiving a report of a firearm-related incident along a rural forest service road north of Kamloops.

In a news release, Mounties said this arrest marked the third time in 24 hours that officers responded to a high-risk situation ending in a suspect's safe arrest.

Officers were called to a camp on Jamieson Creek Forest Service Road on Monday after a man allegedly pointed a firearm at a person. While extensive patrols were conducted, the suspect wasn’t found.

The next day, RCMP Air Services and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team located and arrested the man, who remains in custody for a bail hearing.

“This was the third time the SED ERT responded to Kamloops in a 24-hour period, with two of the occurrences overlapping at the same time,” Supt. Jeff Pelley said in a statement.

Another incident happened in the 3000-block of Rose Hill Road on Tuesday. Police were called for a report of an assault in progress at about 7 a.m., and a suspect was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff.

The man remains in custody and awaits a bail hearing.

On Monday, police also responded to a report of a suicidal person who claimed to be in possession of a firearm and walking toward the Halston Bridge. Mounties apprehended the person under the Mental Health Act at about 10 p.m.

“The resolve and professionalism of our frontline officers, SED ERT and support units provided an exceptional response that allowed for comprehensive investigations and desist action, with the interest of public safety remaining at the forefront,” Pelley said.

“The tireless efforts of those who attended those high-risk and stressful situations are greatly appreciated in their attempts to help safeguard our communities.”
