There is HOPE for those living rough in Vernon.

HOPE Okanagan ceased operating earlier this year, but a team of volunteers is continuing the program in Vernon.

HOPE Vernon is currently operating a weekly outreach service for the unhoused community at the People Place, 3402 27th Avenue, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, however, those times may change as winter progresses.

Volunteers will be providing toiletries, hygiene products, condoms, snacks, clothes for both men and women, footwear, hand warmers, blankets, emergency blankets and harm reduction material.

Items such as food, makeup, hair accessories, flashlights, sleeping bags, tents and other misc items will be based on availability.

HOPE Vernon is also holding a clothing drive Oct. 5 at the People Place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information and for a list of what is needed, visit their Facebook page.

According to the Upper Room Mission, there are 224 unhoused people in Vernon.
