Salmon Arm Mounties issued a seven-day driving prohibition to an intoxicated driver after he was allegedly spotted tossing beer cans out of his vehicle after driving it into a ditch.

On Nov. 22 at about 4:30 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch on Highway 97B. The caller also alleged they had seen the driver throwing beer cans out of the vehicle.

“Police attended and located the vehicle and lone occupant who admitted to driving,” said Const. Andrew Hodges of the Salmon Arm RCMP. “The driver reported he swerved to avoid a deer and went into the ditch.”

Officers issued a roadside breath demand which resulted in a warn reading.

The driver was also found to have previous alcohol-related driving offences, and as a result was issued a seven day driving prohibition.

The man’s vehicle was also impounded for seven days and the matter was further referred to RoadSafetyBC.
