Over $18,000 was raised at the 22nd North Okanagan Drive-Thru Breakfast held at the Prestige Vernon Lodge Wednesday morning.

Run by United Way BC, the drive-thru accepts donations and gives them to various charities around the Okanagan. This year, the money collected is being given to multiple youth programs that support early childhood development, youth leadership, and out-of-school activities.

“It is currently really difficult for parents,” said Kris Gibson with United Way BC.

“The economy is hard, inflation and those kinds of things. So ensuring their kids get the proper after-school support is really critical.”

United Way has been helping Canadians since 1917 and currently serves over 4.5 million British Columbians.

“Where there are gaps in our community, United Way is there,” said Gibson

People in the drive-thru were treated to an array of treats from various Vernon businesses. They also had a chance to win bigger prizes like lift tickets and gift cards.

“This is our chance to bring the community together to share some breakfast with them and tell them about issues in their community," said Gibson.

Donations to United Way B.C. can be made on their website.
