Crews extinguish RV fire

UPDATE: 8:52 p.m.

There were no injuries after a motorhome caught fire near Highway 97 in Summerland on Tuesday night.

Rob Robinson, fire chief for the Summerland Fire Department, said eight firefighters were called to the incident at about 7:20 p.m. He said the fire took place at a motorhome on the shoulder of Barkwill Street — just outside the Pleasant View Motel and RV Park.

In an email to Castanet, Robinson said crews did a “good job” with initial knock down of the fire, but had to pull away before fully extinguishing the blaze.

“We ran into a hazard of wires above it that burnt down on top of the motorhome,” Robinson said.

“We called in our Summerland Power Team to de-energize the lines before crews could go back in and fully extinguish the fire.”

Robinson said there were no injuries, and crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
