B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad was in Kamloops Thursday evening in front of a crowd of about 250 people for a rally at the Holiday Inn off Tranquille Road.

Rustad attended the rally with Kamloops Centre and Kamloops-North Thompson candidates Peter Milobar and Ward Stamer, and could be found shaking hands with supporters and taking pictures as the night wore on.

Speaking with Castanet Kamloops, Rustad said there are “big issues that need to be addressed” that his party wants to “take head on” if it forms the next government.

"I’m thrilled to be back in Kamloops, as I have been going to all corners of this province. It's amazing the level of support that's been building,” Rustad said.

“It's amazing what is happening, really, across this province — and Kamloops is no different."

On Thursday, Rustad and the Conservatives released a plan for infrastructure projects to build across B.C., including Kamloops’ Red Bridge which was destroyed by arson overnight back in September.

Asked how much funding a Conservative government would commit to the project, Rustad said it would depend on the design of the replacement.

“But we're committed to making sure that the funding is there and available to get this project off the ground and get that replacement in place,” he said.

Rustad said his government would have a “conversation with the community” on the project’s scope.

BC NDP leader David Eby has also committed to rebuilding the Red Bridge.
