The Columbia Shuswap Regional District is asking for witnesses to come forward after a cyclist was injured in a dog attack in Silver Creek on Thursday.

In a statement issued Friday, the CSRD said the situation was already under investigation after complaints had been made to the regional district.

“At this time, the investigation remains ongoing, and the CSRD is unable to provide further details," the statement said.

The district said it acknowledges the seriousness of the situation and will ensure "appropriate actions will be taken" following the investigation.

“The CSRD is currently working closely with the RCMP to make sure all necessary steps are followed to address this incident," the statement said.

The CSRD encouraged anyone who witnessed the attack to submit an online dog control complaint form.

A post made to a Silver Creek community Facebook page Thursday said a woman had been dragged off her bike by two dogs and was helped by Good Samaritans before being taken to hospital.

People commenting on the post said the dogs are known to be aggressive, and numerous complaints had been lodged with CSRD dog control.

Castanet reached out to Salmon Arm RCMP, but police declined to comment.
