A late addition to the provincial election race will see candidates from each of B.C.'s three major political parties vying to become the next MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson.

Tristan Cavers has been named the BC Greens candidate to run for the riding, bringing to three each the number of candidates running in the two Kamloops-based electoral areas between the three major political parties in the province.

Cavers, the brother of former Kamloops city councillor Donovan Cavers, is a third-generation farmer who lives and works on the certified organic Golden Ears Farm in Chase. He also volunteers as a firefighter and first responder with Chase Fire Rescue and the Adams Lake Fire Department.

In addition to that, Cavers works part-time for the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library system at both the Chase branch and the Mobile Library.

In the winter, he volunteers at Harper Mountain on the ski patrol team and trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

He has served on the boards of the Chase Chamber of Commerce, Kamloops Regional Farmers Market, Skmana Ski and Snowshoe Club and Chase and Area Family Services.

“I’ve grown up in the North and South Thompson for the last 43 years," Cavers told an all-candidates forum Wednesday. "Leaving it in a better condition for my daughter is my goal in running."
