A Kamloops man who was caught hiding a “spy camera” in his bathroom to catch his roommate’s teenaged daughter naked has been re-released from prison after having his parole revoked for a second time.

The 40-year-old man, who cannot be named under a court-ordered publication ban put in place to protect the identity of the victim, was sentenced in 2022 to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of voyeurism, making child pornography and breach.

The man moved in with a friend and her children in 2019. The friend became suspicious of the man the following year and went through his phone on April 18, 2020.

On the device, she found nude recordings of her 15-year-old daughter. She then searched the bathroom the teen used and found a camera hidden inside a shaving bag.

The woman called police and the man was arrested later the same day. When interviewed by Mounties, he blamed the teen for “flaunting” herself in front of him.

His day parole was revoked last fall after he was arrested with methamphetamine and brass knuckles. He was re-released in October.

The man absconded on his parole for six weeks after failing a mandatory drug test in May. At the time of his arrest on July 12, police said he could face drug-trafficking charges, though none have been laid.

He was re-released statutorily on Sept. 13 with conditions requiring he abstain from drugs and alcohol, avoid contact with known criminals and obey a curfew. He will also be barred from possessing or accessing pornography and required to report all relationships to his parole officer.

His 2.5-year sentence will end in October.
