If your kids are spending too much time on screens or too much time alone, BGC Okanagan has the answer to get them moving and interacting with other children.

This fall, BGC Okanagan invites families in Kelowna, Vernon, Lake Country and Peachland to join a season filled with enriching and enjoyable recreation programs that are low cost. These programs are designed for children aged seven to 13 and cover a wide range of activities, from sports and art to exciting excursions and leadership development.

“We know how important it is for children to have a safe and welcoming place where they can explore new interests, build friendships, and connect with positive role models,” BGC Okanagan recreation program manager Victoria Voth says. “Our programs are not only fun but help kids build confidence and life skills that will stay with them for years to come.”

Parents can look forward to a schedule packed with diverse activities that align with BGC Canada’s core values, including community involvement, creative expression and physical fitness. Each program is carefully designed to ensure participants can explore their interests in a safe and supportive environment. Whether it’s a hands-on art project or a field trip to local attractions, every child will find something that captures their interest.

“Parents tell us all the time how much they appreciate having a variety of activities to choose from,” Voth says. “We offer something for every personality—whether your child loves being outdoors, is a budding artist or just needs a fun, safe place to hang out after school.”

BGC Okanagan is committed to ensuring that every child can participate, with options to accommodate busy family routines. The programs are low cost or free, including the Families and Communities Together (FACT) program, which offers a free night of fun for the whole family and a buffet dinner. Families must register for each FACT night, and can do so the Friday prior to the program by clicking here.

Recreation programs are offered after school, on weekends and in the evenings, and each location in Kelowna, Vernon, Lake Country, Peachland, Armstrong, Enderby, Falkland and Lavington provides a monthly calendar to make it easy for families to stay informed. Check with your club to see which of the activities are offered and for which age groups.

BGC Okanagan is committed to keeping its programs accessible as well. Parents are responsible for a yearly membership and program fees, which are low cost and vary depending on the program selected. To ensure every child has the opportunity to participate, financial subsidies or Canadian Tire Jumpstart funding is available for eligible families.
