· CastanetThis is your last chance to secure tickets for the 40th annual Kalamalka Dream Auction.
Kalamalka Rotary is hosting the big event on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Vernon Prestige Lodge, and tickets are available for purchase until Sunday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m.
“We have an amazing evening planned,” Dream Auction chairwoman Faith Wood says. “Andrew Allen will begin our evening at 4:30 p.m. with a cabaret style concert while guests mingle and are served appetizers. An exquisite four-course dinner will be served followed by the live auction. Back again this year is Auctioneer Don Raffan, who will captivate the audience with his auctioneering expertise.
“Artist Jordan Perkins will join us this year to do a live painting that will be auctioned off. The evening will close to the classic rock music of Feet First.”
This year’s event will include both silent and live auctions. Participants will have the chance to bid on a wide range of items, experiences, services and more, including local ski and winery getaways, deluxe travel packages, advertising, art pieces, e-bikes, and home furnishings and appliances.
To celebrate the ruby anniversary, guests are invited to wear a touch of ruby—be it a tie, scarf or another accessory—to mark this significant occasion.
The Kalamalka Dream Auction has made a profound impact on the local community. It has supported various initiatives, from providing transportation for day-care attendees and individuals with disabilities to supplying weekend meals for elementary students, enhancing biking trails for all ages and upgrading facilities for local non-profits.
“When you’re enjoying the Okanagan Rail Trail, attending a performance at the Powerhouse Theatre, exploring nature at Allan Brooks or know someone enrolled in a trades program at Okanagan College, think of the Dream Auction,” Wood says. “The auction has contributed to incremental enhancements that benefit people of all ages in our community.”
The Dream Auction also has a global reach, impacting international communities. Previous contributions have funded school constructions in Nepal and Ethiopia, enhanced educational access in rural locales, provided clean water in Haiti and facilitated the switch from wood-burning to gas stoves in Tanzania. Additionally, Kalamalka Rotary’s involvement with Kiva assists small businesses around the world by offering microloans, enabling people to prosper in their own communities.
Since its launch in 1985, the Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction has raised more than $4.6 million, aiding both local and global projects and programs. That includes more than $225,000 that has been contributed to Vernon Hospital Foundation in the last 23 years, helping fund the purchase of cutting-edge medical equipment and support services for women’s and children’s health.
