Nelson Police are urging the public to contact the detachment if there is a concern about a loved one.

The police department said that on Tuesday, Oct. 15, they were contacted by a concerned citizen that they had not heard a family friend for more than a month.

"He reported that while it wasn’t unusual for them to not be in regular contact, he was alarmed by the how long it had been since he had received communication and that other family members had not had any contact either," police said in a media release.

Nelson Police said that by lucky coincidence, a constable familiar with the missing man spotted the man downtown later that day while on routine patrol.

Nelson Police said the man was confirmed to be alive and well and was removed as a missing person from the database.

"We commend the family friend for coming forward with his concerns," police said.

"The Nelson Police Department encourages all community members, regardless of background or circumstance, to come forward with concerns about loved ones.

"We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in our community."
