Another hat in the ring

An independent candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for the Boundary-Similkameen MLA race this fall.

Sean Taylor is a Grand Forks resident with former military and healthcare experience who, in a social media announcement of his campaign this week, described his belief in "drastic political reform."

Taylor has run in two previous federal election cycles, most recently with the People's Party of Canada in 2021, hoping to unseat MP Richard Cannings. That bid was unsuccessful.

Now his eyes are on a provincial seat. In Taylor's announcement, he said his focus will be on "cutting red tape for small businesses and housing," as well as taxes, healthcare, and smaller government.

"Are British Columbians going to continue voting for the types of people who brought us here? Or are recent experiences going to inform our decision to try something new?" his statement reads.

Taylor faces incumbent MLA Roly Russell, who is with the NDP, and Donegal Wilson, running with the Conservative Party.

The provincial election is Oct. 19.
