ERT makes 'high-risk' arrest

UPDATE 8:55 p.m.

A man with outstanding warrants has been arrested after he barricaded himself inside a residence on the 1000 block of Government Street.

In a news release, Penticton RCMP said the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called to assist due to the "high-risk posed by this individual."

"After attempts were made to have the suspect exit were unsuccessful, SED ERT utilized various tactics to safely arrest him," police said.

The suspect was eventually arrested without incident, and with no risk posed to the public.

The suspect is currently in custody awaiting a court appearance.

Police said said no further details will be released as the investigation remains active.


ORIGINAL 7:20 p.m.

Police appear to have weapons drawn and have descended on a home located on Government Street Wednesday evening.

According to witnesses who spoke to Castanet, police SUVs arrived at the home around 6:30 p.m.

Officers can be seen wearing helmets and vests. They appear to be holding guns and are accompanied by dogs.

Witnesses to the incident also described hearing several loud “booms.”

Castanet has reached out to the RCMP for more information.
