Coronation Street fans 'work out' Carla's romance with female resident - and it’s not DS Swain

Coronation Street fans are convinced that they have worked out who Carla Connor's new love interest will be - and it's not DS Lisa Swain, who she has been growing closer to

Coronation Street enthusiasts believe they've figured out the next romantic interest for Carla Connor, and it's not DS Lisa Swain.

Viewers will remember that Carla, portrayed by Alison King since 2006, was left devastated earlier this year when her marriage to Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoyne, ended with his departure from the street.

Since then, she seems to have formed a bond with DS Lisa Swain, played by Lisa Meyers. As Lisa attempts to take down the villainous Joel Deering, portrayed by Calum Lill, Carla has shown empathy towards the stressed detective and single mother.

Carla even offered work experience at the Underworld factory to Swain's daughter Betsy, played by Sydney Martin. Last week, Lisa came to Carla's aid when she was confronted at the factory by the father of a mischievous child she had recently collided with.

Later, the two shared a tense moment where Carla brushed a strand of hair from Lisa's face, before Lisa quickly found a reason to leave. However, fans are now convinced that Carla's future love interest won't be Lisa.

Sharp-eyed viewers predict that a former iconic landlady will return and capture Carla's attention, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Expressing their theories online, fans speculate that Carla's friend Michelle Connor, played by Kym Marsh, could make a return and spark a romance with Carla, which would be a significant plot twist.

On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: "I'm still waiting for Michelle to come back and then her and Carla can get together."

Another added: "Yes please!" A third fan concurred: "I could see this happening tbh. Come on make it happen." Another fan wrote: "Oh my god I hope so, Michelle was one of my favourites." Michelle last appeared on the show in 2019. Kym first joined the soap in 2006 and quickly became a fan favourite, winning numerous awards.

She bid farewell to the show in 2019, but this year, Kym hinted that she might make a comeback soon. In an interview with Liverpool Echo, she said: "Never say never. I'd like to think I would go back if it suited us both at the time."

In August, Kym told The Mirror: "It was left open, very much so and if the chance and opportunity was to arrive then I could always return if that was what was wanted."

"So yeah, there is always that option for her to go back, unless they kill her off! But there is that opportunity and I mean, I just love that show. "I will always love Coronation Street, it's such a major part of my life."
