Five two-bedroom Plymouth houses you can buy for less than £199,000
by Gillian Adams · PlymouthLiveThe provisional average price paid by first-time buyers (FTB) in Plymouth was £199,000 in August 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This was 2.2% higher than the revised August 2023 average of £194,000.
According to Zoopla’s house price index (HPI), first-time buyers are on track to be the biggest buyer cohort in 2024, accounting for 36% of all sales in the UK. This is followed by existing homeowners buying with a mortgage (31%).
The rapid growth in rents and the decline in mortgage rates have shifted the renting vs buying dynamics and supported more FTB purchases. The average mortgage repayments for a typical UK FTB home are 17% cheaper than renting, compared to a difference of just 2% a year ago, when mortgage rates were higher.
Zoopla’s research indicated that half of first-time buyers outside of London are looking to buy a three-bedroom houses, as the more affordable end of this market is still in reach for many households, especially for those looking to add value to their homes. The second most popular choice for buying a home is two-bedroom houses or flats.
