The Plymouth skyline was dominated by a huge tower of toxic smoke this morning, Friday, November 1, after a fire broke out. An eyewitness has reported that the fire started at the Auto City Garage, in Belmont Street, in Stonehouse. We have a photo gallery of pictures from the scene at the foot of this article.

The fire broke out at around 9.30am and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue attended. The fire service advised people to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution. Explosions were heard at the scene as the fire took hold.

The incident prompted a large-scale response from emergency services with at least six fire engines and six police cars. King Street was closed to traffic, trapping drivers attempting to get to Western Approach. It is expected to remain closed until around 2pm.

Below we have a picture gallery of photographs from the scene.
