The response to a public survey about the proposed toll increases on the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry services has been strong, says the MP behind it. Anna Gelderd, MP for South East Cornwall, launched her own public survey to gather vital feedback from local residents and businesses.

So far, over 600 people have responded, reflecting concerns across the constituency. Anna is eager to hear from all residents about their thoughts, suggestions, and experiences.

She says that those who rely on this critical transport link will have their voices heard during the inquiry thanks to the survey. Since her election, Anna has been clear that she does not want Torpoint Ferry services to be impacted or reduced, nor does she want to see toll increases.

Anna says she is committed to presenting evidence to the inquiry, giving a voice to the residents of South East Cornwall, and working towards the longer-term goal of making the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry toll-free. Anna says she understands the impact that the proposed toll increase could have on people’s lives and livelihoods.

The Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry are used by many residents to commute to work or school, attend important healthcare appointments, visit loved ones, and by businesses transporting goods across Cornwall and Devon. Anna says she has consistently championed South East Cornwall’s interests on this matter since her election, is determined that local views are central to discussions.

Anna said: “The Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry services are lifelines for many in South East Cornwall. I have been working to improve transport issues within our communities since day one and I want to ensure your voice is heard during the inquiry. That’s why I’m urging everyone to spare a few minutes to complete my survey so that I can present your views during the inquiry.”

Key issues addressed in the survey include:

  • Frequency and reasons for using the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.
  • Personal, business and financial impacts of the proposed toll increases.
  • Understanding of the reasoning behind the proposed toll increase.

The survey is now live and can be accessed online via Anna Gelderd MP’s social media channels. The deadline for responses is Friday, October 4. All responses will remain anonymous and confidential.

Any experiences used as evidence during the inquiry will be shared on a non-attributable basis. For more information, please get in touch via email: anna.gelderd.mp@parliament.uk
