Wave of Light coming to Plymouth to honour babies who have died

Buildings in Plymouth will be lit up in the evenings in tribute

Anyone affected by baby loss is being invited to join in on Plymouth's Wave of Light next week, to mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week [BLAW], which runs from October 9 to 15.

Pregnancy Crisis Care, Luna's Fund and The Phoebe Hoskin Trust have come together to set up the event, supported by Tozers LLP and South West Devon MP Rebecca Smith. The Wave of Light will start at Theatre Royal, on Tuesday October 15 at 6pm.

The group will then walk up to Smeaton's Tower together, along to the quiet garden, to light candles brought with them in memory of all of the babies who have been taken too soon. The candle lighting will take place at 7pm, in line with the national and international Wave of Light.

Sarah, A counsellor at Pregnancy Crisis Care, explained the charity she works for offers free support and counselling services to individuals and their partners for any pregnancy related crisis, including miscarriage, stillbirth, fertility issues and newborn death.

In line with BLAW, Sarah said the charity has had various events running to raise awareness, support families and also fundraise so Pregnancy Crisis Care can continue to offer this vital support.

She said: "Everyone is very welcome who has experienced a loss at any stage and this can affect so many members of the family – children, grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles, etc."

Sarah said Tozers LLP, a Devon-based law firm, have kindly sponsored ribbons for parents and family members to add their angel names, and tie them at the Wave of Light event.

Buildings around Plymouth are also being lit up pink and blue in the evenings for BLAW. This includes the Theatre Royal, Smeaton’s Tower, Duke of Cornwall, Marco Pierre White at the top of the Crowne Plaza and The Box.
