Teen seriously injured after being hit by van he had been travelling in
by Sarah Lumley · PlymouthLiveA teenager is in hospital with serious injuries after getting out of a van - and then being hit by that same vehicle. The incident happened at around 4.40pm on Thursday (November 7), on Antony Road in Torpoint.
The young man had been a passenger in the van, and had only just exited the vehicle when it then drove into him, leaving him with serious injuries. The police and ambulance service attended the scene, and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a person on Antony Road, Torpoint, at around 4.40pm on Thursday 7 November. Emergency services attended the scene. A man in his teens, who had been a passenger in the van and had just got out, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital.
"An investigation into the circumstances around the collision is being led by officers from the Roads Policing Team. A 36-year-old man from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit."
Police are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have any relevant information or dashcam footage that might help with enquiries, to get in touch via their website, or by calling 101 and quoting reference 50240282950.
South Western Ambulance Service also confirmed their attendance at the scene, with a spokesperson saying: "We were called at 16:40hrs on Thursday 07 November to a road traffic collision in Torpoint. We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an operations officer, and a first responder to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Derriford Hospital."
