Forefront RF receives funding to progress to next stage in RF
by Caroline Hayes · Electronics Weekly.comCambridge fabless semiconductor company, Forefront RF, has secured £16m series A funding.
Octopus Ventures and Cambridge Innovation Capital have joined existing backers BGF and Foresight Group to provide investment to prepare for the launch of its first product, the FFM51010, for the cellular enabled smartwatch market.
Established in 2020, the startup’s patented Foretune technology is based on founder Dr Leo Laughlin’s research. Described as a transformative self-interference cancellation system, it addresses leakage and interference issues by dynamically inverting and neutralising unwanted signals, for cleaner signal transmission and reception in software-defined radio systems.
A self-configuring tunable duplexer which dynamically adjusts to any required frequency replaces bulky fixed frequency filters and duplexers to reduce overall size. This also reduces component count and manufacturing complexity, saves PCB space and also minimises variants to reduce waste and to increase supply chain efficiency, said the company.
Production of the FFM51010 is scheduled for 2026.
