OroraTech raises €25m Series B for wildfire detection from space

OroraTech has successfully closed its €25 million Series B funding round to boost its predictive AI capabilities and orbital sensor network.

The Munich-based company, which describes itself as world leader in wildfire intelligence, uses infrared sensors in space to collate data and analytics. Predictive algorithm data fed by its infrared thermal satellite network, enables third parties to better respond to wildfires.

According to the company, the funding will enable the next phase of its strategic growth. For example, further expanding into key global markets.

Specifically, it will be used to expand OroraTech’s existing footprint in North America and the Asia Pacific regions. There will also be investments into its predictive AI capabilities and orbital sensor network.

The investment round was led by Korys, the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF), and Bayern Kapital.

“Their strategic support, combined with the continued confidence from our existing investors, will be pivotal as we enhance our technology and grow globally,” said Martin Langer, CEO & CTO of OroraTech. “Together, we are poised to make significant strides in eradicating the devastating impact of extreme wildfires worldwide.”

The company has announced contract wins with a number of civil authorities. For example, the Canadian Forest Service and Canadian Space Agency, the Greek government and ESA, and – most recently – NASA, for U.S. forestry.

The European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) is a private venture capital fund concentrating on the bioeconomy.

Korys is the investment company of the Belgian aristocratic Colruyt family.
