Sendamangalam, in Namakkal district, is set to establish a new Industrial Training Institute (ITI).

Admissions for the ITI have already begun, and revenue officials are currently searching for suitable land for the construction of the permanent facility. In the meantime, the ITI will operate in a temporary location.

In the 2024-25 budget session, the Tamil Nadu government announced that 10 new ITIs will be established in the state, one of them at Sendamangalam. Based on the announcement, the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department issued a Government Order (G.O.) to establish the ITI last week in November.

The government has allowed for running the ITI at a monthly rent of ₹60,000. At present, the district administration has decided to run the ITI at the Sendamangalam Government Arts College building temporarily. Based on the admission of students, other options will be considered, officials added.

Namakkal District Collector S. Uma said that direct admission for the ITI would start on December 31 for the two-year courses in textile mechatronics, mechanic electric vehicle, and central air conditioning plant mechanic, and for one-year courses in health sanitary inspector.

The age limit for the courses is between 14 and 40, and the candidates should have passed Class X. The application fee is ₹50, and the admission fee is ₹195. During the course of training, students will get Rs. 750 monthly as education assistance, free uniforms, books, slippers, bicycles, a free bus pass, and ₹1,000 in monthly assistance under the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan Thittam. Willing students shall approach with certificates at the district skill training officer’s office in Namakkal Collectorate.
