Plea to confer Karnataka Ratna on S.M. Krishna posthumously
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduLeaders cutting across party lines have urged the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to confer Karnataka Ratna award on former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, posthumously.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, Dinesh Gooli Gowda, Congress MLC, and several Congress leaders of Mandya district have appealed to Mr. Siddaramaiah to honour Krishna with the highest civilian award in the State.
The demand to confer the award came at a time when Mandya district, the native of Krishna, is hosting the Akila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana from December 20.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Mr. Tangadagi, Mr. Gooli Gowda and Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority vice-chairman Venkataramane Gowda (‘Star’ Chandru) said Krishna had served in various posts and deserved to be given the award.
Mr. Ashok recalled the contributions of Krishna to developing Bengaluru city, the IT and BT sectors, the midday meal programme in schools and other welfare schemes and urged the government to honour the late leader with the Karnataka Ratna.
