Belagavi students on excursion have a narrow escape after bus topples in Mysuru

A total of 38 Class X students from Shantiniketan Public School in Khanapur of Belagavi, along with their teachers, were on a two-day trip to Mysuru in two KSRTC buses.

A group of students from a school in Belagavi and their teachers had a narrow escape after the bus they were travelling in Mysuru toppled after hitting the median on the road connecting Fountain Circle and Tipu Circle in the city on Tuesday (November 26, 2024) night.

While most of the students and teachers in the bus escaped with minor injuries, a boy, who was rescued from the bus after breaking open the window panes, suffered a fracture in his hand while another boy required stitches for an injury near his forehead.

Two teachers also suffered injuries in the mishap, with one teacher also requiring stitches on the forehead while another teacher injured both his knees.

City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said the police reached the spot soon after receiving information and rushed the injured to K.R. Hospital and other private hospitals for medical treatment. She said a total of 11 students had suffered minor injuries.

A total of 38 Class X students from Shantiniketan Public School in Khanapur in Belagavi including 27 boys and 11 girls along with their teachers were on a two-day trip to Mysuru in two KSRTC buses.

After visiting an amusement park and Chamundi Hills on November 26, the students were proceeding to their place of stay when the mishap occurred.

The students were later taken to Avant BKG Hospitals in Bogadi, where they were provided medical treatment. “Our team of doctors including neurologist, orthopaedic and cardiologist attended to the injured. Most of them had only minor injuries, except for two students and two teachers,” said a representative of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the KSRTC has agreed to bear the expenses of the medical treatment provided to the injured students and teachers.

Former Minister and Congress MLA Tanveer Sait visited the hospital on November 27 and enquired about the well-being of the students. He has appealed to Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy to extend assistance to the students and teachers from Belagavi.
