Day after low-intensity blast in Rohini, school gets hoax bomb threat

A private school in Rohini received a bomb threat via email on Friday, a police officer said, adding that the threat was declared a hoax after a thorough search of the premises.

The incident comes a day after a low-intensity blast near a PVR Cinema in Prashant Vihar, less than a kilometre from the school, had left one person injured on Thursday morning.

“A call regarding the bomb threat at Venkateshwar Global School was received around 10.55 a.m. A team of Delhi Fire Services officials, bomb disposal squad, and dog squad was rushed to the spot and the premises were evacuated. No suspicious object was found,” the officer added. The police said they are trying to ascertain the source of the email.

Speaking to The Hindu, Namita Singhal, principal of the school, said, “After we received the email, we informed the parents about the early dispersal of all the students and staff.”

FIR filed

Intensifying its probe into Thursday’s low-intensity explosion, Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Section 326 (G) (mischief with severe consequences to public safety) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act. The initial probe had suggested that the blast occurred after a cigarette butt landed in the waste dump at the site. “The case has been registered against unidentified persons and efforts are under way to arrest the accused,” an officer said.
