HC Judges inspect road stretch from Fatima College to Samayanallur

Maria Clete on Friday along with authorities inspected the road stretch from Fatima College to Samayanallur in Madurai. The court is hearing a public interest litigation petition seeking proper safety measures along the road.
The High Court judges inspected the road at around 5.30 p.m.. Suggestions were made to the authorities with regard to safety measures including reducing the gap between medians at a few places along the road stretch. Corporation officials, police and other officials were present during the inspection.
In its order on November 21, a Division Bench of Justices M.S. Ramesh and A.D. Maria Clete told the authorities that they would inspect the road stretch and directed the authorities to be present. The court directed the authorities to ensure that adequate streetlights were installed along the stretch.
The court also took note of the reports submitted by the police on the number of accidents reported along the road stretch and directed all the authorities concerned to coordinate with one another and identify the places where the accidents were reported.
On November 27, Madurai Corporation and the Highways Department officials, in a joint operation, removed encroachments along Fatima College - Paravai stretch of Madurai - Dindigul highway. The Highways Department continued the operation from Paravai.
The court is hearing the public interest litigation petition filed in 2023 by N. Senthil Kumar of Paravai who sought a direction to the authorities concerned to ensure proper safety measures along the road stretch.
He sought a direction to the authorities to ensure proper installation of medians, reflective signboards at appropriate places, prevent pasting of posters on signboards and defacement of zebra crossings, standardise speed breakers and ensure proper lighting on both sides of the highway. The court has posted the matter for hearing on December 3.
