AAP, Congress reiterate that they will fight Delhi Assembly election alone

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress on Wednesday dismissed source-based media reports and confirmed once again that there will not be an alliance between the two parties for the Delhi Assembly election.

In a post on X, AAP chief and national convener Arvind Kejriwal said, “There is no possibility of any alliance with the Congress.”

The speculation of a tie-up began after Mr. Kejriwal on Tuesday met Nationalist Congress Party chief and INDIA bloc leader Sharad Pawa. Both the Congress and AAP fought the Lok Sabha election earlier this year with a 4-3 seat sharing arrangement as part of the INDIA bloc.

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav said that his party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections alone, as it is in a position to win the elections and come back to power. “We had to pay a heavy price for aligning with AAP in the Lok Sabha election,” Mr. Yadav said. He added that during the month-long Delhi Nyay Yatra, the feedback he received from hundreds of residents was that Congress should fight the Assembly elections alone, and should not have any tie-up with AAP.
