HYDERABAD

Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has asked AICC leader Rahul Gandhi to suggest Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to stop the spree of changing names and statues and instead work for betterment of lives of people or else it would continue forever.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Rama Rao said on Wednesday that the Congress high command was acting as a mute spectator to the mindless actions of its government in Telangana after the people voted for the party with the hope that there would be betterment of their lives, but instead they were getting worse. The State government had been betraying every section and except for a few, most of the promises made and guarantees given were not kept.

He sought to know from Mr. Gandhi whether the statues of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi would have remained intact had the previous BRS government thought of replacing them. He cautioned the Congress not to insult the culture of Telangana.

Alleging that the Congress high command was only interested in getting funding from its governments in States and not in bettering the lives of people who voted for it, he said that against the requirement of ₹49,500 crore crop loan waiver scheme of ₹2 lakh per farmer, the Telangana government had not even cleared/written even half of it so far. Similarly, in case of Rythu Bandhu/Bharosa, the State government had denied it for the last two seasons even at the extent of ₹5,000 per acre per season, if not at ₹7,500 as promised by the Congress.

He made it clear to Mr. Gandhi that the party would make it a point to change the names of all institutions named after Congress leaders Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and remove the statues of Rajiv Gandhi and ‘Congress Talli’ when it would return to power in the State.
