Eight more schools get hoax bomb threats

by · The Hindu

Eight Delhi schools received bomb threats through e-mails on Saturday morning. This is the third such instance in the past week. Over 70 schools received such threats through separate e-mails sent on December 9 and 13.

The police termed the fresh threat a “hoax”, saying nothing suspicious was found on the schools’ premises during search operations carried out by emergency response teams, local police, bomb detection units, and dog squads.

An officer said the threats to all eight schools were issued at 1.47 a.m. from the same e-mail address.

A Delhi Fire Services official said the first alert was received from Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar at 4.21 a.m.

Warning to student

Meanwhile, Delhi Police’s Special Cell identified a private school student who had sent a hoax bomb threat to his school in Paschim Vihar on Friday.

The police said the student admitted to the act and was subsequently counselled. He was let off with a warning and his parents were asked to keep a watch on him, said an officer. The police said the threat issued by the student was not connected to the threats received by other schools on Friday.
