T.K. Ramakrishnan, State Information Commissioner, on Thursday (November 28) inspected the office of the assistant engineer, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Atholi section, Kozhikode, following a complaint that the officials there had failed to provide the required information under the Right to Information Act (RTI).

Mr. Ramakrishnan later said that some government offices in the district had not been following even the basic guidelines in the RTI Act. He claimed that the officials at the KSEB office at Atholi had failed to appear before the Information Commissioner and did not provide the information sought by an applicant. The report submitted to the commission lacked clarity too.

During the inspection, it was found that a board with names of the public information officer and the appeal authority had not been placed in the office. A State Public Information Officer (SPIO) and an Assistant State Public Information Officer had not been appointed. Mr. Ramakrishnan directed the officials to exhibit the board and appoint the SPIO in seven days. He also said that action would be initiated against the officials. A detailed examination of the documents to be kept the office as per the RTI Act was yet to be done, he added.
