The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ranks commemorated the 15th anniversary of ‘Deeksha Diwas’ (November 29), the day on which founder and president of the party K. Chandrasekhar Rao went on a fast-unto-death demanding statehood to Telangana region of combined Andhra Pradesh in 2009, by holding special meetings across the State on Friday.
Working president of the party K.T. Rama Rao participated in a commemorative meeting held at Alugunur in Karimnagar, while senior leader of the party T. Harish Rao recollected the historic day from the point of view of Telangana, in Siddipet. In Hyderabad, party programmes were led by former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
In Kothagudem, the event was led by MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra and attended by party leaders Vanama Venkateswara Rao, Rega Kantha Rao, Mechha Nageswara Rao, B. Haripriya Naik and others. The Gadwal meeting was led by Karne Prabhakar and Vijayudu and in Suryapet, it was led by G. Jagadish Reddy.
Party leaders including Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council S. Madhusudana Chary, City legislators Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Maganti Gopinath, Kaleru Venkatesh Yadav and others distributed fruits to in-patients at the NIMS Hospital here. Later in the evening, bike rally led by Mr. Srinivas Yadav was taken out by the party activists from Patigadda to Basavatarakam Hospital and from there they proceeded to the party office by foot to participate in a meeting.
Harish Rao recollects past
In Siddipet, Mr. Harish Rao recollected how KCR had decided to go for a final push for statehood to Telangana in 2009 after the Supreme Court judgment that Hyderabad was a free zone in terms of employment opportunities. He stated that KCR was picked up by the police in Karimnagar even before he reached the protest camp in Siddipet on November 29, 2009, and shifted to Khammam and continued the fast until the Centre announced the process of Telangana formation on December 9, 2009.
At the Deeksha Diwas meeting in the party headquarters in the night, KTR cautioned the Telangana society that the forces that carried the bags of ‘samaikyandhra’ leaders had resumed the attack on the existence of Telangana. “Delhi puppets on one side and Gujarati ghulams on the other side have intensified the attack on Telangana’s self-respect and are trying to wipe out the history of Telangana”, he said.
Kavitha visits Telangana Bhavan
BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla joined a padayatra to Telangana Bhawan to mark Diksha Diwas. This is her first visit to the party office after coming out of jail. Ms. Kavitha recalled how the day was important in the Telangana struggle.
Speaking to the media, she said, “In the history of our country, after the freedom struggle, the Telangana movement stands as a testament to peaceful and constitutional agitation. KCR Garu’s fast unto death became the turning point that inspired many other movements across India.”
