Guest lecturers stage protest in Belagavi seeking regularisation, higher wages

Members of the Government Pre-University Colleges Guest Lecturers Organization staged a protest in Belagavi on Tuesday demanding regularisation and other benefits. They also demanded higher wages and better working conditions.

They gathered at the protest site near the Suvarna Soudha and shouted slogans against the State government and in favour of their organisation.

They said that over a thousand guest lectures are working full time for honorarium amounts as less as ₹12,000 per month. They sought an increase in honorarium up to ₹30,000.

Their other demands include considering guest lectures while preparing the seniority list in the recruitment of guest lecturers every year to ensure quality education, continuation of their services, job security by issuing service certificates and merit points.

Their demands include making them work not more than 10-12 hours per week as per the Department of Education orders, immediate release of honorary allowance of additional guest lecturers appointed in several colleges of the State, including Tumakuru and Mysuru for this academic year (2024-25), and for February of the last academic year (2023-24).

Continuing all guest lecturers in service till the end of March and paying full salary for October in all districts of the State, offering facilities for female guest lecturers that are similar to those offered to degree college teachers, including maternity leave are among their other demands.

Leaders Allama Prabhu Bettadoor, V.N. Rajashekar, Padmaprabha Indra, Rajesh Bhat and others were present.
