Preparations are in place for the successful conduct of the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which will be held from December 20 to 22 in Mandya.

P.M. Narendraswamy, MLA, said that stage preparations will be completed in three days, and the 67 acres of land where the Sammelana will be held near Sanjo Hospital will have all amenities for the participants.

He was speaking after reviewing the preparations in Mandya on Sunday. Nearly 40,000 people can be accommodated in the main arena. There will be 450 book stalls, 350 commercial stalls, and 55 government stalls.

Adequate food courts have also been established to ensure there is no overcrowding. There will be 40 food courts for registered delegates and 120 food courts for visitors, including the public.

As many as 250 toilets have been set up for general use and 50 bathrooms for cooks. To ensure there is no power disruption during the three-day event, generator sets have also been installed. Fire extinguishers will be put in place to handle any untoward fire-related incidents, said Mr. Narendraswamy.

Food safety

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar said, “As the Sammelana is a major event that will be attended by thousands of people, a team of 10 specialists has been constituted to ensure food safety.”

The team will conduct safety tests of drinking water supplied to the participants and the public. Three borewells have been drilled exclusively to meet the drinking water requirements during the event and 5.8 km long pipelines have been installed, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding that three RO plants will be installed at the venue as well.

Meanwhile, 24 acres of land have been earmarked for parking of vehicles. Free bus services from the city to the venue have also been arranged, and the KSRTC buses will operate from different taluk centres as well, he said.

Route maps will be prepared and displayed at various places to inform the public of the transportation availability to reach the venue.

The Sammelana will be a plastic-free event, the DC said.
