Planning to strengthen State Disaster Response Force, says Andhra Minister
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduMinister for Home Affairs and Disaster Management Vangalapudi Anitha on Monday visited the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 10th Battalion headquarters at Kondapavuluru in Krishna district.
Ms. Vanitha asked NIDM Joint Director and South-Head Col. S.R. Palagani and NDRF Battalion Commandant V.V.N. Prasanna Kumar about the training being imparted on disaster management.
Col. Palagani explained to her the schedule of the training programmes planned by NIDM south headquarters at Kondapavuluru.
The Minister went round the equipment gallery arranged by the NDRF, and deputy commandants and the assistant commandants presented a demo on the latest gadgets used by the force in rescue operations.
Mr. Prasanna Kumar explained to her the rescue and rehabilitation operations taken up during natural calamities and disasters in Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
The Minister directed the NIDM and the NDRF officers to conduct training programmes with latest gadgets to minimise risk and human loss during calamities. She also discussed strengthening the AP State Disaster Response Force (APSDRF).
She lauded the NDRF personnel for their daring operations during the cyclones, floods, building collapse and drowning incidents. “The government is planning to strengthen the APSDRF on a par with the NDRF,” Ms. Vanitha said.
