Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday (December 16, 2024) met the families of security personnel martyred in Naxal attacks and civilians affected by Naxal violence in Bastar.

He held these meetings on the second day of his visit to the conflict-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. Expressing support for the families, he spoke about new initiatives such as a special window for addressing their grievances. To honour the memory of the personnel who lost their lives, the Chhattisgarh government would install statues in their villages, preserving their legacy for future generations, he announced.

Mr. Shah appreciated the Chhattisgarh government’s initiative to dedicate one day every week at the Inspector General’s Office to address the grievances of martyrs’ families. He suggested that District Collectors also participate in this initiative, ensuring a more comprehensive support system. “While nothing can truly lessen the pain of losing a loved one, we aim to create mechanisms to alleviate your suffering,” he added.

While interacting with the families, Mr. Shah acknowledged the immense loss they have endured in this long and painful battle. He said, “The pain of losing your loved ones cannot be diminished, but we stand firmly with you. The Chhattisgarh government is making efforts to preserve the memories of the martyrs to ensure their sacrifices remain eternal.”

The Home Minister said that over the past year, a well-executed strategy had yielded results by significantly curtailing the influence of Naxalism, enabling the government to accelerate developmental activities systematically.

Elaborating on the overall approach of the State and the Union governments going ahead, Mr. Shah said: “Our efforts are focused on three fronts: encouraging Maoist rebels to surrender, arresting those involved in violence, and responding firmly to those threatening lives. Those who choose the path of violence are being dealt with in their own language.”
