EVKS Elangovan death: Tamil Nadu Congress to observe weeklong mourning; fly party flag at half-mast

Tamil Nadu Congress chief Selvaperunthagai recalled Elangovan had joined the Congress as a youth and worked for its growth in the State

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Saturday (December 14, 2024) he was saddened by the demise of senior party leader EVKS Elangovan.

In a statement, Mr. Selvaperunthagai recalled Elangovan had joined the Congress as a youth and worked for its growth in the State.

“When he was the president of TNCC, he consistently opposed the then ruling party in a bold manner. He earned the goodwill of not just the people of Tamil Nadu but also that of the other political parties,” he said.

“Having recently been elected as the MLA of Erode East assembly constituency with a big margin, EVKS Elangovan’s death is a big, irreplaceable loss for TNCC. A pillar of Tamil Nadu Congress has fallen,” he said.

Mr. Selvaperunthagai offered his condolences to his family and Congress cadres. The party will observe a week long mourning as a mark of respect during which the party flag will be flown at half mast across Tamil Nadu.
