CM’s son-in-law Sabareesan met Adani: BJP State president Annamalai

by · The Hindu

BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai on Wednesday claimed that V. Sabareesan, the son-in-law of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, had met industrialist Adani. There was nothing wrong in his meeting Mr. Adani, but the question was about the DMK government awarding contract to the group after it came to power, Mr. Annamalai said.

“We never said that the Chief Minister met Mr. Adani. We are constantly raising the issue of the DMK government awarding a contract to him. For that one Minister says the contract was awarded during the AIADMK regime. But, we are saying that the DMK after coming to power also awarded the contract to Mr. Adani,” he told reporters.

The Chief Minister had stated in the Assembly that he had not met Mr. Adani and the opposition was making false allegations against him, Mr. Annamalai said.

“Mr. Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan and the Chief Minister’s private and personal secretaries have met Mr. Adani and officials of the group. Even last week a meeting happened. Let the Chief Minister deny this. We are ready to give proof,” he said.

Instead of adopting diversionary tactics, let the Chief Minister explain how the contract was awarded to Mr. Adani, the BJP leader said.. He also termed the Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam as the cut-copy-paste version of the Centre’s Vishwakarma scheme.

Mr. Annamalai said that about 8 lakh beneficiaries from Tamil Nadu had registered for the Vishwakarma scheme and urged the State government to drop the Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam and implement the scheme.

He also said the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports showed that while Tamil Nadu was good in one or two indicators, it was weaker in many other indicators. There was a need for the State government to wake up, he added.

On CAG’s charge that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department was not producing records of temples and their endowments, Mr. Annamalai said his party would move a contempt petition against the department before the Madras High Court.
