Pre-events of Beypore International Water Fest begins

With the fourth edition of the Beypore International Water Fest just a fortnight away, pre-events have already begun.

The sports competitions as part of the event began with a Kabaddi competition on Kozhikode beach on Friday (December 13) in which four each men’s and women’s teams took part. A volleyball competition and Rugby competition are being held at the same venue on Sunday (December 15) and Wednesday (December 18) respectively. A football competition will be held at Beypore beach on December 20. The skating event will be held on the city roads on December 21 in which around 150 skaters are expected to take part.

Meanwhile, registrations have begun for the Mini Marathon to be held on December 22. Anyone above the age of 20 can take part in the 13 kilometre marathon from the Kozhikode Beach to Beypore that begins at 6 a.m. There will be separate competitions for men and women. The winners of the first three positions in each category get a prize money of ₹7000, ₹5000 and ₹3000 respectively. Besides, other goodies await each participant.

The cultural programmes as part of the pre-events include a ‘Nattu Velicham’ vehicle procession from Ramanattukara to Kozhikode on December 22, an open discussion on the topic ‘Festivals of Kozhikode’ at the Cultural beach on December 24, a ghazal night by Ustad Ashraf Hydros Khan on the same evening, live painting by differently abled students, performance by Malhar Band on Kozhikode beach and by Vibes band at Feroke on December 25. A Basheer Fest will be held at Vailalil house in Beypore on December 26, while a Kolkalli performance will be held at Beypore beach later in the evening. A cycling event will be held in the morning of December 27 carrying the flag of the festival from Kozhikode to Beypore.

The three-day festival also features various cultural programmes including musical evenings led by Vineeth Srinivasan, K.S. Harishankar and Rimi Tomy respectively on December 27, 28 and 29 at Beypore beach. Hesham abdul Wahab, M. Qube band and Ranjani Jose will lead the entertainment at Chaliyam beach on the same days. Performances led by Punya Pradeep & Vaisakh Varaveena, Jyotsna Radhakrishnan and Urumi Band are to be held at the Nallur Mini Stadium at Feroke on the same days.
