Amaravati to become a piped gas capital
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduOfficials of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have come forward with proposals to make Amaravati the country’s first capital city to use piped gas entirely.
A delegation led by A. Ramana Kumar, member of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), met Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad on Tuesday. They discussed the gas pipeline construction and other projects undertaken by IOC in the State. The officials proposed to make Amaravati the first fully piped gas city in India. They cited Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) City in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where everything from gas to electricity and telecom cables was underground, providing piped gas to all residences, commercial complexes, and institutions.
Similarly, they expressed readiness to supply piped gas throughout Amaravati, making it the country’s first piped gas capital. The Chief Secretary assured full cooperation from the state government.
Andhra Pradesh Gas Development Corporation Director K. Dinesh Kumar stated that the goal was to provide piped gas connections to 8 million people in the coming days.
The PNGRB delegation visited the RTGS (Real Time Governance Society) and held discussions with AP Gas Development Corporation officials. They reviewed the progress of natural gas pipeline construction and city gas distribution work in the State. The target was to supply gas through pipelines to 8 million homes in the State, and they requested PNGRB officials’ cooperation in this effort. Mr. Dinesh Kumar assured that the authorities would provide complete cooperation to resolve any issues faced during the pipeline construction.
Lieutenant Colonel Kumar Ashish, Director of the City Gas Distribution Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation General Manager Satyanarayana, and others participated in the meeting.
