Bihar police on Tuesday (Decembet 3, 2024) made the shocking revelation about the life threat given to Independent Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav. Purnia Superintendent of Police (SP) Kartikey K. Sharma said that the accused had threatened to kill Mr. Pappu on the instruction of the MP’s associate.

Mr. Sharma added that Mr. Yadav’s men promised the accused to give him ₹2 lakh and also to make him a leader. Mr. Pappu, the gangster-turned-politician has been getting death threats, apparently from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang after the murder of NCP’s leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai.

Twenty-one-year-old accused Rambabu Yadav, a resident of Dumaria Village, in Bhojpuri district was arrested by Purnia police, Khazanchi Hat Police station on December 3 and made this revelation based on his interrogation.

In a WhatsApp message on December 1, the accused had threatened to kill the Purnia MP within 24 hours unless he apologised for his remarks on Lawrence Bishnoi, The SP asserted that the entire plot was created to increase the security of Pappu Yadav and there was no connection from Bishnoi gang.

The accused was also a member of Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik) founded by Mr. Pappu. However ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2024, his party had merged with Congress.

“During the interrogation, he said that the associate of Purnia MP contacted him and briefed that for the security of the parliamentarian it was necessary to threaten him and the accused agreed to do this. He was given what to say in the threat message and also offered money apart from making him leader in future. Two videos were shot and one was used and the second was kept to use later. We have found those two videos. Further investigation is going on in this case,” Mr. Sharma said while addressing the press in Purnia.

Mr. Sharma did not reveal the names of Pappu Yadav’s associate who had given the task to the accused asserting that investigation was underway.

Mr. Pappu, a six time MP from Purnia and Madhepura, has been getting the threat calls for the past two months since he had announced to finish off the network of Bishnoi gang, suspected to be behind the murder of Siddique.

After getting as many as 20 threat calls, Mr. Pappu demanded to enhance his security to Z plus, however all this demand turned futile. Later he had issued the statement saying that anytime he could be assassinated.

On November 25, one of his close friends gifted him a bulletproof Land-Cruiser to ensure his safety.

After getting the car, Mr. Pappu had said that the government may not care about his safety but his friends do.

Reacting to the revelation of Purnia SP, Mr. Pappu posted a message on social media ‘X’ saying, “Total 26 people have threatened to kill me so far. I have received threats from Malaysia, Pakistan and Nepal, why has no action been taken on them till now? If someone has paid money to threaten me then the police should reveal his name and arrest him! The police are playing with my security on someone’s orders, spreading lies and encouraging the murderers.”

Tagging the post to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he further said, “Your police are mentally bankrupt. They are behaving in the same way as the then government and administration did when late Congress MLA Hemant Shahi was shot. He was accused of pretending to be injured, later Hemant ji, died while undergoing treatment! The same thing is happening again.”
