Collectors should focus on improving their district rating in education sector, says Lokesh
Govt. is keen on creating Andhra model of education and showcase it not just to the nation but to the entire world, says HRD Minister
by P. Sujatha Varma · The HinduMinister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Nara Lokesh on Thursday (December 12) said substantial changes were being ushered in the education sector.
Speaking at the Collectors’ Conference on the education sector, he said for the first time, KG-to-PG curriculum and pedagogy were being aligned, ensuring a smooth transition. He said the next 100 days were very important as students of 10th class and Intermediate would be writing the Board examinations. “Parallelly, we will experiment with use of technology in terms of learning outcomes through pilot projects,” he said, adding that the government was keen on creating Andhra model of education and showcase it not just to the nation but to the entire world.
Referring to the report on the star-rating of the districts, he said the data collated showed that there was no link between the infrastructure and academic performance. He said the report cards were made for school education, but soon the Intermediate education would also be integrated into it.
He said in the next five years, the progression expected in terms of academic performance, school infrastructure and school dropout rate, was very high. He said the government expected the Collectors to focus on these key issues and achieve ‘zero dropout rate’.
Mr. Lokesh said the quality of the mid-day meal was an area of concern. He said after tasting the meal served at a government school recently, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had directed the officials to improve the nutrition value of the food.
The HRD Minister said food quality and hostel issues also needed attention in the higher education sector. “I have been receiving many complaints about the poor quality of food and also sanitation and other facilities. We need to fix these problems,” he said, informing that the government intended to collect feedback directly from the students on a regular basis.
Drive against drugs
The Minister said a campaign called “Drugs Vaddu Bro” (Say No to Drugs Bro) was launched at the recent Parent-Teacher meeting and that there was a need to sensitise all sections of people on this critical issue. He said under the guidance of the Home Minister V. Anitha, ‘Eagle’ teams and clubs would be formed in educational institutions and regular activities would be taken up for sensitisation.
