Lalita Anapur, chairman of Yadgir City Municipal Council (CMC), suggested to streetside vendors to do their business without causing trouble to the public and to maintain cleanliness.

She was addressing the audience after inaugurating the awareness programme organised by CMC and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) for street vendors at Maharshi Valmiki Bhavan in Yadgir on Thursday.

Many complaints have reached the CMC about traffic congestion and minor accidents caused owing to street vendors. Therefore, vendors should make way for vehicles and pedestrians to avoid accidents and extend cooperation to CMC and the Police Department, she said. “You need not pay anyone for any reason. If anybody demands money from you, bring it to our notice,” she told the vendors.

Under the DAY-NRLM scheme, a total of 1,358 beneficiaries have been sanctioned ₹10,000 in the first phase, 636 beneficiaries have been paid ₹20,000 in the second phase, and 213 beneficiaries have been paid ₹50,000 in the third phase, Ms. Anapur said.

Rajanikanth Sringeri, Commissioner of CMC, said that identity cards have been issued to 1,784 street vendors so far. “The vendors should make use of the benefits under the scheme,” he said.
