YSR Congress Party’s State general secretary Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy on Wednesday asserted that he was ready to legally face the “false cases framed against him by the Tirupati police”.

Addressing a press conference, he said to tarnish his reputation, cases were foisted against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and 11 Sections of SC, ST and IT Acts. He said he would slap defamation cases against the police officials and challenge them in the court of law.

Accusing the ruling coalition government in the State of resorting to vindictive politics, he sought to clarify that he had not spoken to the media anywhere about the assault on the girl at Yellamanda in Chandragiri constituency. “And yet false cases have been booked against me after 22 days of the incident,” he said, alleging that the Tirupati police filed a case against him after forcing a statement out of the girl’s father.

He alleged that subsequently, the TDP-friendly media spread baseless allegations about the incident to tarnish his reputation. It may be noted that on Tuesday, the Tirupati police filed a case against Mr. Bhaskar Reddy under POCSO on the charge of character assassination by him of a minor girl.

Explaining the sequence of the incident, he said he visited the hospital in the Talakona region only after he received a telephone call from the girl’s father about the assault on her. “I asked the police personnel and the doctors to ensure best treatment to her,” he said.

Presenting a video of the girl’ father to support his statement, the YSRCP leader said the latter, speaking to the media, demanded stringent action against those responsible for the assault. Later, he said the girl was shifted to Tirupati hospital for better medial services. He said YSRCP leader Nagarjuna Reddy shifted the girl and her father in his car to the Tirupati hospital.

He said as her treatment continued, he returned to Ongole and did not speak about the incident to anyone and “yet a case was booked against me.” He reiterated that he was not afraid of police cases and would prove his innocence in the court of law.
