Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and MLA K.T. Rama Rao has stated that his party legislators would keep raising the Lagcherla farmers’ issue everyday in the Assembly until the government rectified its mistake and lifted the cases foisted against the farmers who were protesting against giving up lands for the pharma/industrial cluster in Kodangal constituency.
Speaking along with the party MLAs at the media point in the Assembly on Monday, he said after withdrawing the proposal to establish a pharma cluster the government was planning to snatch the lands from poor farmers in the name of industrial cluster now. The government had been keeping tribal and dalit farmers of the village for over a month now and their sin was not agreeing to give up lands. Following their refusal to give up lands, the government had foisted cases and they were subjected to third-degree torture including electric shock, Mr. Rama Rao said, adding that the BRS won’t rest until the third-degree torture and excesses in the name of land acquisition were not exposed. The government preferred to take up discussion on the tourism policy by keeping aside the issue of farmers of the Chief Minister’s constituency languishing in jail.
He pointed out that it was A. Revanth Reddy in the capacity of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president who assured the farmers of Mucherla pharma city that the Congress party would return the 14,000 acres of land acquired for the purpose once it came to power. However, he had conveniently forgotten his word and instead was trying to do real estate business with the lands.
The Congress government had also submitted to the High Court that the State government could not scrap the pharma city and at the same time, acquiring lands for industries in other places in the State. He reiterated that the BRS struggle would continue until the Chief Minister apologised to the farmers of Lagcherla.
Meanwhile, the BRS has given a call to its leaders in constituencies to submit representations to the Ambedkar statues on the Lagcherla issue across the State on Tuesday.
