Jeeyar counters claims on participating in ‘padha puja’ at Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin’s residence
His office lodges police complaint against YouTubers
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Srivilliputtur Jeeyar Mutt has lodged a police complaint against promoters of two YouTube channels for spreading “false information” that the pontiff along with other religious heads had participated in a ‘padha puja’ at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The administrative in-charge of the Sri Manavala Mamunigal Mutt, V. Sakthivel Rajan lodged the complaint with the Srivilliputtur Town police seeking action against ‘Our Temples’ YouTube channel promoter, Rengarajan Narasimhan, RedPix YouTube channel, Felix Gerald and M. Kalanjiam, “for deliberately spreading false information” about the mutt through interviews aired by the platforms.
He has also sought protection for the mutt.
The complaint said Satagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar of Srivilliputtur along with other religious leaders had participated in the release of a book on Ramanujar at the Secretariat on July 17.
However, the video clippings had claimed that the Jeeyar along with other pontiffs had participated in the ‘padha puja’ held at the house of Mr. Udhayanidhi.
The video stated that the Jeeyar had acted in violation of the customs of the mutt. Stating that the interview had belittled the Hindu beliefs, the complaint sought action against the three persons.
The pontiff had not participated in any event in Chennai on the said day, he said.
